Minutes of the Buckeye Belles Picnic Meeting - Aug 15

The meeting was held at the new home of Jean KB8YHN and Bill KB8USZ in Oberlin, Ohio. We had about 10 YLs and 6 OMs present and Nancy KC4IYD brought her 7 1/2 month old daughter, Carol, and Jean KB8YHN's niece Liz brought her 5 month old son along.

During the meeting the following dates for upcoming activities were mentioned or decided on:
Sept 10-12, 1999 Kelleys Island
Sept 25, 1999 Chix YL club meeting
April 8, 2000 Buckeye Belles Annual meeting at the Der Dutchman with April 29 being an alternate. Chris Sterling to call to verify.

Member news:
Bonna KB8SFF is in Canada until Sept 12. Getting managerial training for Tim Horton's restaurant. Ruth Rickett will be moving and she is not sure if her new place will give her access to radio equipment. Dave Willemin W8EU became a SK, he is the OM of Pat KB8AK. Chris KC8DJO is looking for someone to take over with regard to printing the Burr. If anyone is interested, please contact her.

Treasurer News:
Carol KI8IM (ex KB8VYB) discussed the treasurer's report. The entire report is listed separately. Currently, dues are $5 per person, with the cost of the Burr and mailing and other expenses it is costing $4.96 per person. We need to raise money so we can cover our regular expenses as well as save money for the upcoming YLRL convention. Therefore, there was some discussion of raising dues. The next issue of the Burr should have a ballot along with suggested increase for our dues for next year.

Convention News:
We need to get a tax exempt status to make it easier for people to donate items to us for the YLRL Convention. Judy KC8BOM would be interested in being the tax exempt contact point. Jean KB8YHN will have Bill KB8USZ check with Oberlin College to see how they did it. If anyone else has information regarding getting a tax exempt status, please contact Judy KC8BOM or Jean KB8YHN.

May N8MZJ read the letter from Terri WD8LQH announcing her resignation as chairwomen of 2003 YLRL Convention in Ohio. Several people were asked but so far no one has volunteered to take on that position. Therefore, a motion was made by Nancy KC4IYD, that all previous attendees of past convention be listed as committee members so we can start working on the convention with the hopes that someone will take the role as convention chairwomen. This motion passed. Currently, the committee members are: Nancy KC4IYD, Carol KB8VYB, May N8MZJ, Rosemary KD8SC, Jean KB8YHN and Bobbie WA1BWT. If you have attended any past YLRL or CLARA convention and would like to be on this committee, please contact May N8MZJ.

Since the majority of the Chix are in the Cleveland area and since they and the Belles will be hosting the convention, a motion was made to hold the 2003 Convention in downtown Cleveland -- the motion passed.

Based on the dates of this past YLRL convention, a motion was made to hold the convention on Aug 2, 3, 4 -- the motion was passed. Since Nancy KC4IYD has been involved with NASA conferences in the past, she will look into the availability of rooms and hotels.

Other convention areas that will need people to chair include for prizes, programs, speakers, goodie bags and a group picture. If you are interested in any of these position, please contact May N8MZJ. We also plan to contact the 2 CA clubs who put together this past YLRL convention and get ideas from them.

Jean passed a sampler around that she intends to be used as a raffle for the convention.

May N8MZJ found the notes and words to the YLRL song. Nancy KC4IYD will attempt to learn it and play it so she can teach it to everyone.

Quilt Squares News:

Jean AA8RZ sent a letter with her quilt square since she couldn't make it because her granddaughter was getting married. May N8MZJ showed off hers. She is still working on them but has a Chix, Belle and YLRL. The rest of us needs to get busy (If you have ordered a pattern and haven't received one, please let me, Nancy KC4IYD know).

Member recognition:

May N8MZJ passed around a plaque that was made up for Doris WD8IKC and Beulah WA8EKQ for all their hard work.

Finale: Before we adjourned, May read to us a little poem.

Respectfully submitted

Nancy KC4IYD
