November Sweepstakes 2002 Challenge

The following comes from an article printed in the Sept-Oct 2002 issue of the Buckeye Burr. More info to come.

November Sweepstakes was an activity that several Buckeye Belles members participated in during 1996, 1997 and 1998 (Click on the links above to read about past Belles Nov. SS activities). It started when the 1996 Buckeye Belles president was "kidnapped" by the Columbus gang called the "Bean Counters" and a ransom note asked the northeast Ohio YLs to participate in Nov. Sweepstakes and get 10,000 points for her release. I opened up my home to YLs from the neighboring Cleveland area and 8 YLs and I worked the SSB portion of Nov. Sweepstakes. We ended up with 30,498 points and the release of our president. However, since 1998 we haven't had any formal participation and I think it time we participated in Nov. Sweepstakes again.

I know we have groups of Belles all over Ohio as well as associates in other states. I am challenging you to get together and work Nov. Sweepstakes. Everyone who works the contest this year, no matter how many contacts you make, will get recognized in both an upcoming Burr and on the Belles website. I will also award a certificate to the highest scoring single and multi-op YL and YL-OM group in both the CW and SSB portion. The YL-OM group is for husband/wife or YL teams with an OM participating or OM control station. There may be other awards given but I haven't finalized all that yet. If you don't have HF privileges and/or don't know of YL near you, contact me and I will help you find one. The Nov. Sweepstakes rules should be in the Oct QST or check out the rules on the ARRL Contest Calendar website.

With regard to your logs, log the contest according to the rules for the Nov. Sweepstakes contest. You don't have to do anything different for the Belle Certificate that I am offering. So participate, have fun and when you get ready to submit your logs to ARRL, just make a copy and send one to me too. I am hoping this will spur more YLs to get on the air. The only requirement for a certificate is that at least you (if operating alone) or one of the people participating (if operating as a group) must be a Buckeye member.
